Realising the potential of such a fluid situation, Standard Group of Companies commenced their operation in the area of friction materials for all types of automotive and industrial applications.

With quality as the watchword from the day of inception, Standard Friction Components Limited. started producing high quality clutch and brake linings from their state-of-the art factory at Vashind, about 75km away from Mumbai; easily accessible by road and rail.

The stress on innovation and R&D at Standard Group was appropriately rewarded when they received the Gold Shield for Import substitution, highest national recognition for excellence in Import Substitution, in the year 1984.

With SFCL's aspirations to become a global player in the field of Hi-Tech friction materials, they entered into a techno-commercial collaboration with M.I.C.K.E Bruhmann GmbH & CoKG, the leading German name, in this area of specialisation. It not only enabled SFCL to upgrade their product quality to international levels but also has made the brand of COMMANDO a force to reckon with.

In 1996, SFCL started spreading their wings by supplying their asbestos-free clutch and brake linings in the international market. The quality standards enabled them transfer Technology to other countries, when they were awarded a contract to put a turn-key project of Brake Tanzania Ltd. in Dar-es-Salaam.
